5 REASONS TO VISIT TUNISIA

5 reasons to visit Tunisia: because Tunisia is not just beaches and all-inclusive resorts, I give you at least 5 good reasons to put this country on your list! You will be amazed.
Did you know that Tunisia is the country I have visited the most times? 16 times exactly! My parents found their little piece of paradise there and I spent every summer vacation there for the first 16 years of my life. I have fabulous memories of it! The memory of a warm and endearing country, rich in incredible diversity! I remember the welcome and the unfailing smile of the Tunisians, the fantastic landscapes of the Sahara, the oases, the salt lakes, the Roman ruins, the troglodyte villages, the smell of jasmine, the bustle of the souks …

Tunisia is a very nice country! But every time I talk about it to those around me, it’s not general support. It’s rather mass seaside tourism that stands out! And then the events of recent years have not helped to improve the image of the country. However, I tell you: Tunisia is great, and you should put it on your TO-DO list!

1- Its varied landscapes

Tunisia is the smallest country in the Maghreb. But don’t be fooled by its size, there is a pretty incredible diversity of landscapes! From the medinas all blue and white, we pass to the Sahara desert, the great oriental erg and its golden dunes in the blink of an eye. We marvel at the refreshing oases, salt lakes, green mountains, arid canyons and small wild coves… There is something for everyone!

2- Its sunny coasts

It is thanks to its long beaches and its very pleasant climate that Tunisia has become known! And indeed, many seaside resorts have flourished near Monastir, Hammamet, Djerba… But there remain large stretches of coastline still very preserved such as Cap-Serrat and Sidi Bou Saïd and small coves with clear waters where you can indulge in water sports. Snorkelling or diving.

3- Its monuments and archaeological sites

Tunisia is also a country with a very rich history! A history of more than 3,000 years which still bears witness to numerous monuments and archaeological sites remarkably preserved and curiously neglected by tourists.

Among the most remarkable sites, we can cite the cities of Carthage and Dougga, listed as UNESCO world heritage sites, but also the mosque and cisterns of Kairouan, the amphitheater and the coliseum of El Jem, the synagogue of Djerba, the Medina of Tunis… Don’t miss the ksour either these famous castles lost in the middle of the Tunisian desert between Tataouine and Matmata. And if you are a Star Wars fan, you will find one of the filming locations for “Star Wars” there!

4- Its gastronomy

Visiting Tunisia also means tasting its gastronomy! Tunisian cuisine is rather very spicy Mediterranean cuisine. It’s the kingdom of peppers, garlic and harissa! If you like spicy food, then you are in for a real treat. Personally, it’s not really my thing but fortunately certain specialties escape the rule and reveal subtle flavors.

Here are some Tunisian dishes to try during your stay: the famous couscous (with vegetables, meat or fish), the brick (a thin sheet of wheat and semolina dough garnished with an egg and tuna), the tagine Tunisian (a kind of omelette with potatoes and meat)…

5- The welcome and generosity of Tunisians

In Tunisia, you will always be welcomed with open arms and a smile! Tunisians are easy to approach and like to discuss and share their culture. It’s a really very friendly country and it’s above all this that gives meaning to the trip!
